VUX World

VUX World needed a website which represented the bold, loud and vibrant energy that make them stand out in the conversation AI space.

Role
  • User Experience & User Interface Design & Development

Tools: Adobe XD, Photoshop, WordPress & Google Analytics.

LANGUAGES & FRAMEWORKS: HTML, CSS & JAVASCRIPT.

The project began with discovery sessions to understand the nature of the functional problems with the old site that both Kane and Dustin were experiencing. Issues ranged from slow site speed (7-8 seconds), non responsive layouts and messy user journeys to unclear call to actions.

After establishing what was required from a site development perspective and doing some bench marking through Google Analytics to review site speed and the old design, the conversation moved on to what the site lacked, or what could be improved for its different user types.

We broke the demographic down into three types of user.

  • Agency and brand owners who require their design and development work to improve customer experience through conversational AI.
  • Fans of the VUX World podcast.
  • Those looking to learn and grow their knowledge of conversational AI.

Having this as a target to design for, prioritised in order of Agency owners, podcast enthusiasts and keen learners of conversational AI, gave the content and structure of the site a natural hierarchy. It became the rationale behind the menu structure as well as the ordering of content on the home page.

Prior to starting development work I designed three page types in Adobe XD. These were as much stylescapes, as they were the mock-ups which became the bones of the pages that would eventually become the site. Having the different pages with various different styles applied facilitated a better conversation when discussing brand direction with Kane and Dustin.

To build the site I used a WordPress theme for the functionality. I stripped out all the HTML and CSS and built the pages up from scratch.

The site utilises big blocks of colour with bold transitions between elements which suits the quirky lively characters that make VUX world who they are.

Summary

Working on this site gave me an opportunity to learn from two professionals each with niche knowledge about an exciting area of AI.

Together they gave valuable insights into improvements on the content strategy, overall UX design and development of the site. The result is a site that is fast to load (3.6 seconds), has a clear value proposition, with CTA’s that guide the user through the site and tells the user the story of who they are.
